Over the last week and a half my son and I have been sick. My son Noah, after almost a week of being out of school finally felt better this past Friday. I, however could feel it coming on and just kept pushing myself to keep on going until I couldn’t do anymore and I needed to just rest. I finally started to feel better yesterday, and I knew that it wouldn’t be long before Simmi would get her turn. She has been cranky and irritable over the last week, and this morning she woke up with a crusty and goopy nose. She has only been sick with a cold once or twice in her life so I guess she is over due.
Her appetite is diminished and the only thing she would eat today was a bowl of plain broccoli. She won’t use a spoon or a fork and through out the day she has small tremors. She begins to put her hands in her mouth more, has less eye contact and very little interests her. Her walking is off and she loses her balance easily. Her toe walking increases also during these times. Its like she hits a brick wall in her mind…sitting there expressionless. This is a stark contrast to just days before when she is yelling “MA!” for attention or coming over to me for affection. During these times she likes to be left alone. It is almost like I have two different children on my hands.
This type of thing happens a few times a week whether she is sick or not. When she was younger it happened a whole lot more than it does now, but it always concerns when it rears its ugly head. I kind of know when these little episodes come on because there is an increased amount of her hair all over her clothes from pulling her hair out. I will have to attempt to cut her hair soon because she has pulled so much out that her hair looks like she has a mullet! I have no idea how I will get her to stay still enough to trim her hair. It took close to a month just to get her to let me put a barrette in her hair.
Tomorrow is our day to go out to Whole Foods to shop for her. I am always on pins and needles when I take her there. Its like the nut heaven in that place. Everyone loves nuts and I have seen some people walking around as they shop with an open treat that contains nuts and it always has me a little freaked out. We have to go through a ritual of cleaning off the shopping cart and then dealing with her getting all ansty because she wants to get out of the cart and walk around. I’m not brave enough to do that yet. I may not be going if she is worse tomorrow but I am mentally preparing for our trek into Albuquerque. I know the fresh air will do her some good. Wish me luck!

Hi Angela - that beautiful, precious face, so sad. Has Simmi been checked for seizures? I ask because I suffer from focal seizures(partial) and she has the symptoms.
Hope everything is going well with your jaunt into town. Gotta go, sick myself. Hubby got the flu, now he’s well and I’m feeling sooo bad.

Hi Maxi,
She has had some seizures in the past, but we haven’t noticed anything happening right now.
