It has been a very emotionally charged week for us as Poppie came home to visit for a few days. My husband is basically stuck in Maryland until he can find a job here in New Mexico and the fact that he isn’t here everyday is very hard on us. It is particularly hard on Simmi because Poppie is her world. Bombs and blasts could be going off in the room and it wouldn’t phase her in the least if he were there.

It has been three months since she last saw him. He grew a beard in that time so I wasn’t sure how she was going to respond to seeing him that way, but all she did was look into those caring, kind and penetrating eyes…see his smile and hear his voice and she lit up smiling and squealing. Yes, Poppie was home!

If he left the room for just one moment she would start to cry and run towards where he was going. Nap time was also a fight, because I guess maybe in her mind she thought if she went to sleep he wouldn’t be there when she woke up. She would scream and thrash about as I tried to put her to bed, and of course after she woke up she would come barreling out of her room looking for him. He was only home for four days and saying goodbye was hard for me and him, but it was hardest on Simmi. She does understand what “bye bye” means, and as soon as she heard him say those words, she began to cry…and then scream. It was a hurt sounding cry, deep and sorrowful. It took about 15 minutes for her to calm down on the way home from the airport. It was good that he got to say goodbye to her at the airport. If she would have awoken from a nap or in the morning and he wasn’t here, she would have spent a good portion of the day looking for him.

Here is a video I got of them enjoying breakfast together. Forgive the pink line running down the center of the video…something happened to my camera and I need to take it back to the store.

  1. I am glad she wasn’t afraid of the changes. If there is any way I can help with finding a job, let me know. It has to be just as hard on you to be apart from the one you love.

  2. Hi Kat,
Dom works in the green building industry. I just finished putting together a website for him last week if you’d like to see it. It has his resume and some of the projects that he has managed. We are still adding more posts to it because it isn’t near complete but it can give you an idea of what he does. If you know of anyone in his line of work, definitely shoot me an email.
In a few weeks the site will take on a whole new look and many new features will be added and expanded.
Here is a link to his site:

  3. Hi Angela - Dom’s love for Simmi is shining in his face, it touches my heart.
My son-in-law was laid off and then my daughter lost her job; he has been down here in Fla. working while wife and daughter are in W Va. In a few days the girls will be here, will live us until they can find a place to live.
I understand how hard this has been on Simmi; my granddaughter has not been herself since being apart from her daddy. There is no way to make her understand the situation, she’s only four.

    You are in my prayers!

  4. I will pass around his information and do some fishing for you. Green Building is going to be big, if the Governor has his way, so that should help. Some of the new Movie Studios are also trying to make their new buildings and building mods Green. I’ll see what I can find!
