Hi Marlena,

I actually found the diet after leaving a comment on someone's blog who claimed they could reverse food allergies.

I am extremely weary of anyone who lays claim to being able to truly reverse them since true food allergies many times will never go away. Yes, children can grow out of allergies, but to say that a diet actually did it is a real long shot.

What I've found is that with many of the mothers that I've spoken to, they assumed their child had food allergies based on a reaction, when in fact they never had the child properly diagnosed by an allergist. I find this disingenuous and misleading for those truly in search of helping their neurologically impaired child.

I'm not in search for a cure for her allergies, just relief for her from not being able to communicate properly. If her food allergies do happen to be decreasing after taking her to her allergist for her yearly check up and blood test, I will be the first to report changes.

Even if a child has sensitivities to foods, which is generally the case with children on the autism spectrum and also with neurological issues, the GAPS diet is the best thing a parent can do.

I'm very disheartened after trying to talk to many mothers and fathers of children with Speech Apraxia as well as being on the spectrum, and they will turn their noses up at me. Nice right? So I understand what you mean by people thinking you're crazy.

Its amazing though that if those who thought you were crazy, watched the progress, they would see the proof. Simone is proof positive that her language is getting better each day. I'm so grateful for Dr. Natasha's research. If I hadn't watched all the videos of boys with autism go through their transformation, I can honestly say that I would never have bought the book. I'm glad I did, and I'm very thankful for the mothers who documented their child's progress with video taping.

I need to get new video of her. Its becoming increasingly difficult to video tape her, but I'll definitely make the effort this week so I can update her progress.

Simone will be five years old this June, and even with all the progress she's made, she's still very behind developmentally. I'm enjoying witnessing her start to catch up though...that's the biggest blessing of all. :)

Your video brought me to tears! I'm so happy for your daughter. My son is a different boy since starting GAPS. I don't know anyone else who's doing the diet it have ever even heard of it. I just get a bunch of "that woman is crazy" looks. How did you find out about the diet? I prayed to God to help me know what to do. My co-worker told me about the book and following it has changed the lives of every member of our family. It seems like finding GAPS is miracle, so how did you find it?

What a wonderful idea to journal your GAPS Journey. What a precious little girl and how blessed she is to have a family who will do whatever is needed to help her. We have been on GAPS for over 2 years now and the progress and success has been amazing. There is so much hope for the future and I look forward to reading your updates on your daughter.

Wow Heather! That's amazing about the coffee issues and then how they were gone with a change in your diet. That's awesome!

A friend of mine last year talked with me about removing rice from Simmi's diet and I was totally opposed to it. Her diet was already difficult to balance and taking rice out of the equation was just omitting something else that really wasn't necessary. She isn't allergic to rice, but, if we can get her digestive system working properly (it never has worked properly) we might be able to put rice back in after two years. Rice doesn't really carry a lot of nutritional value for her so its not like she'll be losing out on something vital.
It also isn't easy to get her to eat things that she isn't allergic to since she wants things exactly the same each time she eats. It took about four days to break her of the idea that rice will be served with her meat or chicken. It was an easy fix though. The bone broths I'm hoping to increase with her. Also to get her eating more beef stew pieces rather than chop meat. There are so many really good cuts of beef we could be offering her right now, but we don't because she's objected to the fact that its not chopped meat. I hope she'll begin to make more progress in that department.

Oh, Angela, this is wonderful!! I have tears in my eyes reading this. Whether it's the diet or not, to see those leaps in development... WOW. And how much happier Simmie must be, to be able to express herself so much more clearly!

I do really believe diet plays a huge role in more ways than we understand. I have just this week gone back on a relatively clean diet, avoiding the junk that I gravitate toward if I'm not being mindful, and loading up on more veggies and fruit. In the months prior, I had developed a reaction to caffeine that was driving me crazy--even a very small amount of caffeine would cause me to get the shakes, heart racing, adrenalin pumping for no apparent reason, all the physical symptoms of extreme anxiety... which would then often trigger the emotional and psychological symptoms as well.

I had given caffeine up altogether to avoid this highly unpleasant experience, but I LOVE coffee so it was hard on me. Then I went back on the clean diet and after a few days I had a small amount of caffeine because I just really wanted some coffee... and NO symptoms. So the next day I had a full cup of coffee... still no symptoms!

So I can only imagine, if a person were strongly reactive to rice for instance, how much it could affect them emotionally and developmentally.

I hope this is the beginning to big positive growth for Simmie. How very exciting. :D

Hi Angela,
I understand your pain. My 3-yr-old son is serverly allergic to milk eggs and wheat. We recently added walnuts to the list (possibly all other nuts and peanuts - too early to tell since he has not been exposed). The thought of sending him to school gives me ulcers. Everyone around me, with the exception of some family and friends, treat me like i am a neurotic overprotective freak. They are convinced i am exaggerating. Although, no one would dare try to feed him anything behind my back (i've heard some horror stories about that).
Please continue to post about your school experience, hopefully it will give parents of children with multiple food allergies some hope and peace.
Thanks!

Hello my 16 month old daughter Caleigh has multiple allergies Milk, Soy, Rice, Dairy, Wheat, Eggs, Barley, Beef, Pork, Carrots, Peanuts, Dustmite, 4 different Molds. She also had terrible ezcema that nothing worked but I must say once she turned one year old the eczema seemed to disappear thank God! My daughter has been in the ER more times in one year than I have been my whole life! Hearing all of these stories makes me feel that I'm not alone dealing with these allergies and no one really understanding what I go through! My daughter has a wheat allergy but she is able to eat cheerios and some products with wheat I wonder if maybe she grew out of it already? I have such a hard time finding her stuff to eat! she eats baby oatmeal, chicken, turkey, fruits and veggies excluding carrots but thats all her diet conists of most of her nutriton comes from her baby formula that she is still on similac Alimentum and I just found another formula thats formulated for children which I'm excited about called Elecare same ingredients as Alimentum the only problem is it costs $50 a jar and I'm currently unemployed! She gets retested in September I hope to God that she outgrows most of these allergies!

Hi! I swear that second video makes me cry everytime I watch it. My son is a little older than your daughter. He also has Apraxia. From my experience, (and I can only speak from that) the best help for Apraxia is to use therapists who truly understand it and have alot of experience with helping Apraxic children. We go to speech therapy 4 times a week for a half hour each and he also has a speech therapist work with him at preschool 2 days a week in the classroom. It is alot, but he is making huge strides and thus I believe it is worth it.
